Our research project is currently recruiting up to 6 research assistants to work on a 10 weeks fixed contract.The job is paid on the basis of 28hrs/wk and £24,877 per annum pro rata.

The main duty is to assess the care needs and condition of residents in nursing homes. Assessments are done through face-to-face discussion with resident’s carer and the information gathered will be recorded using a highly structured instrument.

You will attend an training session and spend own time to familiarise yourself with the instrument. You will also need to attend a debrief session during the 10 weeks period. You are expected to liaise effectively with nursing home staff and report progress to the Project Manager. The nursing homes are located in Essex, London and east Kent area.

You will be given 10 weeks to complete 100 assessments. Each assessment is estimated to last no longer than 1.5 hours. However you should expect spending an appropriate amount of time contacting nursing homes to arrange appointments with their carers.

There is no restriction of when you conduct the work (i.e. weekdays, weekends or evenings) as long as it is agreed with the carer and the nursing home you are visiting. It is important that you establish good rapport with the nursing home staff and carry out the assessment in ways which cause minimum disruption to their daily routines.

Successful candidates will start working from the end of November 2009 and all assigned assessments need to be finished by early February 2010.
