REPORTS TO: Assistant County Secretary (Adults and Children Law Group)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide a high quality litigation and advice service to the Director of Children, Schools and Families, and the Children Schools and Families Department (CSF)
including acting as an advocate before the Courts.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

To provide a high quality litigation service to the Children Schools and Families Department (CSF) to ensure that litigation is dealt with efficiently and cost effectively and achieves the purposes of CSF for each case.

To provide legal advice and assistance to CSF to ensure that the decisions made by CSF are within legal boundaries and achieve their aims and objectives.

To conduct advocacy before the Court to include acting in matters before the High Court, County Court and Magistrates Court, including preparation of the case, to ensure that where decisions of CSF are made, they are as far as possible upheld by any Court where they are tested.

To investigate and advise on the implications of changing legislation, case law, codes of practice and policy.

To attend case conferences and professional meetings as directed by the Assistant County Secretary (Adults and Children Law Group)

To maintain an awareness of all relevant legislation, policy and regulations

To provide training on legal issues as directed by the Assistant County Secretary (Adults and Children Law Group)

To make recommendations to the Assistant County Secretary (Adults and Children Law Group) as to improvements in practice and procedure in the Group to ensure that the Group retains pre-eminence in its practice are completed
